welcome!

unbalanced forces: an exploration of collective makingWelcome to the official Unbalanced Forces blog. Well, as official as we’ll ever get.

The purpose of this blog is simply to share images of the Unbalanced Forces exhibition at Bambi Gallery in Philadelphia with those who couldn’t make it to the show, or who want to revisit the work. If you happen to find yourself in or near Philly in the coming weeks, the exhibition will be up through June 27th, and Bambi is located at 1001-13 N. 2nd St. in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia.

A little bit about the show:

Unbalanced Forces: An exploration of collective making presents nine emerging artists from various cities who have joined to create a body of collectively constructed jewelry and objects, inspired by the tradition of the exquisite corpse. Artists Sarah Abramson, Kate Bauman, Nikky Bergman, Kit Burke-Smith, Maureen Duffy, Colleen Heineman, Margaret Semrau, Jessica Stephens, and Kristi Sword have created a show that is absurd and playful in both its method and form. Their work is full of curiosity and untraditional methods, but attempts to address traditional formalities by both its references and materials. The show’s title echoes Newton’s first law of motion, which states that an object continues in its established state or motion indefinitely, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
